Summary Of Buckle Up add
This ad uses multiple aspects of advertising we have talked about in class such as music, color and fear. This ad uses music to set a very depressing mood which it does quite effectively. It then further sets the scene with a dark color scheme. All of this goes a long way in projecting the message they are trying to get across to the viewer. However all of this is only ment to set the scene for the emotion this ad is ment to project on the viewer which if fear. This ad attemts to scare the viewer into wearing their seatbelt. It does this by showing the drivers soul leaving his body for heaven while the passengers soul seems to be having trouble. It then shows that the passenger was wearing his seatbelt and that is why his spirit couldn't get out. This is obviously just a symbol but it is clearly ment to show that seatbelts save lives. This ad dpes a great job of using suspense in order to grab the readers attention. This is important for any ad because it cant be effective if noone watches it.

Analysis of The Burger King Commercial
This commercial uses cultural myth to appeal to men. It feeds off the myth that men want to be manly and that beef is a masculine food. It also feeds off the myth that men eat more than women when it shows the excessively small food and continues to call it chick food. The commercial has men repeatedly saying "I am Man" implying that this why they need meat. They also show the men rejoice after consuming the Whopper.
Summary of "Over the Limit Under Arrest ad"
This ad is focused on preventing drunk driving. This ad is essentially a fear ad which aims scare people away from drunk driving. Everyone knows that drunk driving is dangerous however people continue to disregard the danger that a drunk driver poses to both themselves and other innocent motorists. Because of this, this ad focuses on the legal consequences of drunk driving. Drunk drivers clearly don't care about themselves or those around them. Fear of legal consequences however is different than fear of injury. Many people feel as if they are invincible and feel as if no matter what they do they will not be injured. People like this though not scared of injury may still be scared of legal consequences. A person can also be arrested for DWI even if they feel fine. This will make people think more about how much they drank rather than just how they feel. I think this ad is effective because a drunk driver is a selfish person who cares only about themself and a person cares more about pottentially getting arrested than pottentially hurting annother person.

Analysis of Garnier Fructis ad
This ad's target audience is women of all ages. It uses bold text for facts. It also uses a change of tone in the music to project a good impresion of Garnier Fructis. The ad wants you to believe that Garnier Fructis will improve your hair. They also want you to believe that you will be happier if you use their shampoo. It does this with the change of tone in music aswell as changing the color from black and white to color. As far as the actual content of the ad the girl goes from being alone to being with a bunch of male friends. This ad uses the cultural assumption that great hair will make you happier. It also uses cultures view of men; which is that men are only attracted to beautiful women.
Summary of Safe driving ad
This ad is quite depressing. This is no mistake, it is actually key in projecting the message this ad is trying to get across. This ad uses depressing music to project this image on the viewer. Music goes a long way in the way people view ads. It sets the scene for the rest of the ad. This ad in particular uses music perfectly. This ad also uses multpile scenes and quick clips to make you pay close attention. In the first scene they also use slow-motion to further set the mood. The message this ad is trying to get across is made clear at the end of the ad using text. This seems to be a constant in ads trying to get a message across. This is used in many ads because it is a particularly good way to tell the viewer what the message is. Overall i think this ad does a particularly good job of getting its message across in a clear and strong way.

Summary of anti-drug add
This ad targets young people who are doing srugs or thinking about doing drugs. Instead of focussing on the physical issues with drugs this ad focusses on how it makes you feel. In this ad the girl steals money from her grandmother to pay for her drugs. The commercial shows that this makes her feel guilty by showing that she is haunted by her grandmother in a way. The comercial has a dark ominous feel. This is added to with suspense; this ad doesn't show what the point is until the very end of the comercial. They also use bold text at the end to clearly state the message the ad is attmepting to get across. This is an ad that really makes you think. Therefore it really sticks in your head and that is a sign of a great ad. Every ad tries to leave an impression on its viewers and that is what this ad does.
Race ads
Race ads have been used since the 1800's. Examples of this are Uncle Bens Rice and Aunt Jemina Pancakes. These companies used race to appeal to their target audience the same way any other ad does. Race is just another thing used by companies to advertise their product. It is effective and accepeted therfore race will be used in ads for years and years to come. Race ads shouldn't be treated differently than any other asspect of advertising because by giving it special attention we are atleast as bad as the marketers who decide to use race in their ads.

Summary oh Hole in Throat Ad
This is an anti smoking advertisement. It is aimed at smokers of all ages men and women. This ad strikes fear into the viewers. It is clearly designed to do this. Examples of this are the use of graphic images and ominous music. An ad like this is ment to scare smokers into quiting. It uses a former smoker who suffered terribly because of smoking, in order to hopefully save other smokers from suffering the same fate. Ads like this one are being used more by the anti smoking organizations that fund these advertisements. This is because these ads show the terrible reality of the toll smoking can take on the human body. I sincerely hope that ads such as this scare smokers and potential smokers as they do I.
Patriotic ads
Patriotic ads are widely used in presidential campaigns. They are used to show strength and leadership in a candidate. This can be effective in acquiring votes because most voters like to see themselves as patriotic. So they are going to relate to a patriotic candidate. Patriotic ads have a huge upside with no real risk of turning people off. You dont have to worry about turning off people who are non patriotic because they probably aren't voting anyway. This is why i think patriotic ads are effective in any election.

Summary of Anti drug advertisement
This ads target audience is parents. This is very obvious beacuse the person in the ad is adresing the audience as parents. It also says in bold letters at the end of the ad "Parents the Anti-Drug". It aims to inform parents of over the counter drug abuse among teenagers. The ad does this through the voice of a drug dealer. The drug dealer is complaining about loosing business to over the counter drugs. He says that the kids are getting the drugs for free out of their medicine cabinets. The hope is that if the parents know the kids are abusing drugs in the medicine cabinet they will put a stop to it. The drug dealer is used to add humor to the ad. It is also a relatively young drug dealer who looks quite dirty. This is used to show what drug use can do to a person. The scene of the ad is outside a conveniance store because this is thought of as a hang out for drug dealers. This ad uses humor with the drug dealer however, it is also ment to be informative to parents. The main goal of this ad is not to entertain but to inform.
Fear ads have their place in politics because they inform people of the potential consequences of their vote. They show people how important the election could be to the future of the country. A responsible voter is not going to cast their vote based on a fear ad. Therefore it is not the responsibility of the candidates not to use fear ads but rather the responsibility of the people to be responsible with their vote. Fear ads tend to be more interesting than the average ad and can draw the intrest of people who normally ignore the election. Fear ads and ads in general promote not only the candidate but the election as a whole. This is good for democracy because intrest in elections is proven to create more involved better citizens. For these reasons I believe that fear is a legitamate tactic in advertising campaigns.

Summary of Second Hand Smoke ad
This ad focusses on secondhand smoke. This is key because many smokers don't care about themselves but all parents smokers and non smokers care about their kids. This ad focuses on secondhand smoke because to many smokers the idea of hurting their loved ones is more of an insentive to quit smoking than the idea of hurting themselves. This ad takes a comedic aproach by showing a cowboy who was smoking standing next to a dead horse. This is funny in a way because no one ever thinks that smoke is going to kill an animal. It also makes it more literal rather than just saying that secondhand smoke kills it gives a picture of it doing just that. Using a horse rather than a person makes the ad not only more funny but less sad. It is also easier to look at than if they showed a picture of a dead human body. This is a perfect example of how a small detailed ad can say alot without without actually saying anything in this case. This ad may be just a picture in a world of videos but it sends a strong message to the viewer.

Summary Of "The Early Word: The Cost of Going Negative"
Negative advertising is used by almost every politician in almost every election. Negative advertising has its place in politics because it is important that the people see both the good and the bad of a candidate. If you only see the good things you could end up voting for a person who isn't the person you thought. Aslong as negative advertising is factual i don't see a problem with it.
